For £35,000,000 they could have started up a new mine somewhere and actually made some money for the county...

Every time a project like this comes up, it's like seeing vampires go mad for a fresh wound. They suck it dry and leave either an infected, half dead remainder or a stiff corpse!

And helped to cut the unemployment.

The £35 Million must be a joke or a spoof!
There must be accounts for it, of sorts....
But where can I find it?

No doubt another example of 'up country' advertising consultants who have never been within 200 miles of the county.

Has is never occurred to you that perhaps Cornwall has its fair share of numpties too?

Why yes of course I do, they are the ones that chose the numpties from up country to take care of the advertising.
The old adage; 'it takes one to know one' instantly springs to mind

The list of consultants is certainly impressive.... In terms of length!

I think that has been tried recently. Not sure if it has made any money.

Ah Scooptram, obviously I never explained myself properly. Its not the fact that the boiler would be on coal but the problems they never thought of when it was suggested originally. Of course I know they ran on coal, and good Welsh Steam coal being prefered.
The problem TODAY is (a) finding a Cornish boiler that will pass a boiler inspection and be certificated, and (b) finding enough volunteers who are prepared to stoke it and de-ash it and then climb around the firetube for desooting. Also someone prepared to clamber around the water spaces for cleaning prior to survey. I know the dirty job that all is having prepared for surveys enough "Scotch" boilers in my lifetime. Very similar but with a corrugated furnace, and they were oil fired. Not a pleasant job and I was paid for it!!

::) Keep taking the pills

running on coal is possible but it couldnt be on a every day basis as you know there are engines run on steam ,it would be nice to see though

Heartbreak project will certainly give visitors to Cornwall a chance to see a mining landscape in the raw, complete with grass, trees, glazed buildings, polished granite and places for miners to enjoy public performances!! Not a trace of mud or dust.
Its just up the road from me, and during the "consultation" I was assured that the buildings would reflect our local architecture. Still trying to see where!
As for it being built to 'interpret Cornish Mining' for up to 250,000 visitors a year, I seem to recall 'Cornish Engines'- Taylors and Mitchells were redeveloped to cater for exactly the same number of visitors about 15 years ago, so now within half a mile we can cater for half a million visitors per year.
We were definitely told South Crofty was in the wrong place by the powers that be before 'Heartbreak' began, ignoring the old Cornish say that 'Tin is where Tin is'!

Sounds like a conversation I had with a certain Tim Williamson. Apparently at the time he was here for the long haul, to see the job completed. ROFL

Paid my first visit today. Distinctly unimpressed, particularly with the meal I had for lunch. I didn't realise there are apartments for sale on the site. Get in there, they've only sold one so far.

It appears that finally, the Biopark at Scorrier has got around to men in Hi-Viz and hardhats using machines to do real work.

Reade's engine and the remains of the whim do need to be conserved and the site is very derelict, however, there are considerations to be made which might not have been undertaken.

I'd say the last thing the county needs is more industrial units, but heigh-ho, I'm sure all the relevant people are getting paid along the way.

Cardrew is 1/2 empty, isn't it. I'm also not seeing a lot of vacant units being occupied AT ANY PRICE.
