πŸ”—Brynlow-Copper-Mine-User-Album-Image-41066[linkphoto]Brynlow-Copper-Mine-User-Album-Image-41066[/linkphoto][/link]

This little contraption, was built by Steve Mills, myself and Nigel Hoyland many years back, can't remember exactly when but circa late 1980's.

We used it wind mud/rocks from the blockage of the Hough level (the main haulage level between Wood mine & Engine Vein mine) at a point where the level runs under the Brynlow mine. The level had been blocked here for many years after rubbish and backfill had been thrown down a shaft from surface. We managed to timber off a couple of short levels sort of mid way down a stope at this point, we used the device to wind buckets up from the mud pile and place the contents behind our new timber shuttering. We spent many a Wenesdday evening working this device until we cleared a sizable way on through the tipped infill. As far as I know the contraption still works although there is still quite a considerable amount of infill to be moved, no one has dug at this place for many a year.

Yup it's still in full working order and I think the kid is still looking for the rest of his bike πŸ˜‰

There is a few jobs to do down there the clay drop on the boat trip is making it very awkward now. And the ore shoot wants finishing πŸ™‚

Well if I go digging in there again I think I shall wear my wet suit after the dunking in the deep part of the water last time I was there. πŸ˜‰

I too have spent many hours on that. Usually trapped because Steve would take away the ladder which meant you couldn't get down until he was ready to leave, usually late.

Which means I probably know you Brakeman.

the last time i was down the hough level we used a boat made out of an inner tube and bath that only went in circles...
for the old crew from alderley thats myself and bernard brown in that damn boat photo taken by harry (hubberdale) holliday both of which started out with orphius.is the mountain of spoil still there under brinlow or has it been shifted it would be strange to not get drenched while down there.

Hi John, yes it has been rather a long time,we're all a wee bit older now πŸ˜‰

Bograt, the large heap of spoil under Brynlow, is partially still there. We did remove approx half of many years ago and you can now climb over it and down an ore chute into the wood mine side, the water level has also been dropped considerably, Steve Mills managed to push a pipe through the heap & this takes water from the Engine Vein side.

We still have the bath tubs with tractor inner tubes fixed to them, there are two one small one & a bigger one, plus an old canoe, which I have a habit of tipping over. πŸ™‚

πŸ™‚ Not true, we have built a new raft into where the miners had a staging, and we like them have been piling spoil on top of it 😒 of course as you know steve is isn't worried if it stays up or not :curse: And you still need to look at the new dig Lee if you get a chance as it grows every week
