I always presumed the double drum had came from inside the cambo winder, i had noticed its quite a size though,

so now i have to ask:

regarding the winder/tipple bay at cambo, what is the purpose of the concrete arch beneath the winding room?

its had a winch inside at some point, but why not put it directly ontop of the tipple foundation as per-Groverake or frazers in the first place?

I seem to remember it being full of electric switchgear (I may be totally wrong of course), but I have no recollection of any winder in there. 🙂

I seem to remember from the early 90's that it was the transformer/switch room as roadsterman said & had the green louvered doors.

The incline winch was above the switch room in the stone clad building, now gone along with the rest of the tin tippler shed. The concrete arch/vaulted roof probably gave more strength to the structure to support the winder above & it's associated forces, see the photo below & it should make more sense 🙂

Thanks chaps for explaining that, i had presumed it had housed a winch due to its location beneath the tipple and control room, and theres a conduit runs up into the stone room (or where it was) that looked like it had wear from wire rope rubbing against the sides of it.guess this is where large diamater elec cable ran through and off down the incline into the mine.

thanks chaps!
