Hi all

I'm after any info on this mine as it's on my grandads farm and my family don't know alot about it.
Alot of the shafts have been filled in with farm rubbish! typical farmers! ha ha, but i think there is one shaft left untouched.
there is enoughter shaft near by but apparently it's called Tippets mine and someone said is a one man mine is this true?

Any info would be gratefully recieved

Give us a better location and we'll tell you all about it.

It has a Basset Graze style ring to it.

If it's Deerpark on Greatwork the adit is open but emerges in someones garden.
There's one shaft I know of that is open and we called it chicken shed shaft, due to its proximity to a chicken shed would you believe. It was blocked with a large granite chunk until we managed to unblock it courtesy of of Dr Nobels Linctus.
This led down to the adit which was flowing from Deerpark shaft, mostly very quickly and difficult to walk against.
There was also a very nasty wet crawl toward Pensndane shaft which was blocked by a pretty nasty fall.
I seem to remember there was the remains of a crab winch on the site of Deerpark shaft.
Interesting area, Aditnow member Daz may well fill you in on further info from the Gt Work area.
However.... there are no shafts in this area named Tippet's so working on that info Stuey is shooting in the right area.
A little larger than a one man op though. 😉

I don't have my Dines with me at the moment, or my 6" maps.

I recall there being a deerpark farm in the Baldhu area and there is a shaft which is unconnected with anything being included with Basset Graze latterly, it was called "Hill Brothers or XXXXXX shaft" It might have been Clemens Shaft and perhaps I'm confusing it with Tippets E and W.

Having said, I also think there is a spurious single shaft between Jane and Sperries which may be working a unique structure..... Tippet was obviously a major player around there.

When matey tells us where it is, it will be much clearer.

The mine in question is between st Newlyn East and the big dipper on the Newquay road and is next to the old Treamble to Shepards farm mine rail line with just to feed Treamble open cast mine.

Wheal Deerpark was near Treludderow Farm and opened in 1814 as a lead mine though in later years it was known as an iron mine. Pumping was carried out by a waterwheel and hoisting by horse-whims

I think it's mentioned in Tony Brook's recent book on iron mining in Cornwall, & possibly also Les Douch's book on East Wheal Rose (the latter I guess long out of print).

I've just had a look at my copy of East Wheal Rose by H L Douch.
Sir Christopher Hawkins granted Richard Oxnam a sett to search for lead tin and copper near a field called the Deer Park on Treluddra Barton and to take up Wheal Mexico adit and carry it to Wheal Deerpark former workings in 1811. Deerpark is referred to as a mine in its own right.
The only reference I could see in a speedread of the book to Tippet is a Richard Tippet of Newlyn, who was killed July 5 1846 in the disaster at East Wheal Rose
Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
That's where I'm heading for that's where I'm bound
So follow me down Cousin Jack
(Grateful thanks to Show of Hands)

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
