My brother and I lived on the next farm (Treburland) and neither of us was aware that there was a mine on Tregune Farm Land. I would be interested to learn of its location and history...,

If anybody is interested I will write a short history of our experiences when Treburland Mine was reopened in about 1941.

Regards EPeter Morgan..

According to Hamilton Jenkin, Tregune seems to have been worked for Tin & Copper in antiquity, yet is recorded by Dines as a mere trial. Yet there is a 20 year history of the mine known during which time it reached approx 100 Fathoms depth. The set had 5 lodes and was worked well before 1846. When the in 1846 the first company was formed to work it, it was known as East Alvenney (Halvanna). The sett was later aquired in 1852 by a new company and renamed Great Tregune Consols, a number of new lodes were found and by 1862 the mine was 80Fathoms deep from surface. At that time it was being worked via Hoblers and Carkees shafts employing some 20 people. Between 1857 and 1865 56T of copper ore were sold for £469, sadly no Tin returns seem to have existed for this mine.

would definitely like to hear more about Treburland.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
