60 plus years ago and up to about 1995 (my last visit) this tunnel had a fairly large amount of water coming out and draining down into the river lyd at the tram track bridge near the station. It also had an elevated, on wooden piles, rail lines to take coal carts. Your photo shows this is all gone and a layer of road base now in its place. Obviously the water must go somewhere Where? Its cessation has no doubt contributed to the reduction of water in the river. Most of the river was filled by the water pumped out of Cannop colliery. Also trhe lock has gone replaced by a welded plate. If any one could give me a history of this I would appreciate it
