I was reading Trounson and there seemed to be non-agreement as to whether the Perran Iron lode was underlain by a truly magnificent copper deposit.

I wonder whether this was drilled, or whether new information came to light about the geology of that district. I gather mid way along Perranporth Beach, there is a degree of "spotting" of the killas, indicating the close proximity of the granite, I assume that it's quite possible that it drops into a copper/etc lode.

Interesting stuff those Trounson books.

A 370 metre exploration borehole in 1973 discovered calc silicates and marble replacing the lode at depth on the Perran Iron Lode suggesting a source of mineralisation different from the cornish type hydrothermal vein mineralisation that would be expected to yield copper in depth below iron/zinc etc.

It is generally understood that the Perran iron Lode is not a true lode at all. it is probably a fault with later mineralisation possibly associated witht he lead lodes. Where these lodes cross the 'PewrranLode' is usually where the concentations of iron ore are found. Most of the iron lode is not heavily mineralised
