Are Treveneague Old Bal and Penberthy Croft one and the same mine? Is Aditnow the only place that mentions Treveneague Old Bal as a mine in its own right (or even as exisitng) or are there other references somewhere.
Penberthy Croft is well written up on the site, is a triple SI and controlled by Marazion estates office but has no photos. Treveneague Old Bal seems to have no write up or records but now has fine pics of an unamed shaft collar.
If they are one and the same can they be combined somehow?
Just curious.

Needs more research but according to Hamilton Jenkin, Mines and Miners of Cornwall Volume XI page 14 Old Fire Engine Shaft at Treveneague Old Bal lay just south of South Treveneague Farm House - and thence to Lower Kestal Bal Shaft - just where the shaft featured is situated. This based on my research but always open to correction or comment.

Wheal.

It is of course looking at the proximity of Penberthy Crofts and Treveneague/Kestal that at a later date they were all joined underground - indeed probable.
poke around long enough and you'll find something..

Off the top of my head, without looking at the paperwork, they are on the same adit system....I think. Interesting stuff.

Somewhere I've got a tracing of a detailed 18th Century map showing Treveneague & Kestal areas but would need to find it to specify what was where. There is a very substantial amount of archive material relating to these mines in the 18thC. stuey, give me a ring if you want to have a look at any of this.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
