United has long held fascination with me and there is one bit of it which is very poorly recorded, that within the triangle on the photo. A lot of the shafts are well capped but a few have seen more recent attention. I'd like to find out what their names are so that I can correlate various Wellington exploration literature/Dines etc with what is clearly there. The area has a few shafts. Obviously Garland's Engine Shaft isn't marked. I'm interested in all of the names, but particularly 3,4,5 and 7. Dines is impossible to relate to real life as he is at best approximate but says "there are other shafts too numerous to mention".

These aren't ones to be gone down.

1,3 and 6 have nothing left at all.

5 has ambideck over it, a nice concrete collar and then sollars about 6ft down. Through the cracks in the sollars, you can see about 300ft to water. It's very deep indeed and maybe over 300ft.

7 is a small shaft on the maps and is in a cutting with what looks like a concrete lid on.

I gather Garland's also had ambideck on until recently. I have a feeling that all the shafts in the area were possibly straight to water. Here are a couple of maps overlain with varied vigour.

This is strictly a history/curiosity thing. You can't get to United via the adit. WW is gone (and was on the same lode as the 1 and 2 shafts, which I gather were always choked/gone).

I'm also curious about the identity of the big shaft 2 o clock from the racetrack....
