Legend has it that there was a good trip into Peevor, sadly during the "surreyfication" operation, bat castling operations managed to chuck enough crap down the adit shaft to block it.
Mitchell's Shaft has a concrete lid on it still. All the access bolts/hatches have been welded on the bat cages. (So, when someone goes down there with an angle grinder/hacksaw, we'll be hearing how they were left for fire brigade access/etc).
I gather Sir Fred's shaft was spectacular (angle bob?) and you needed a boat to explore some stopes. After hearing about the weenyness of the levels, I decided not to bother. I would have done if I had realised access would have been permanently stopped.
It's a nice site and although I admire the sentiment, it's what happens when you send a gang of chimps to alter the shafts. What is wrong with a wall AND a fence AND a Clwyd cap, I have no idea..... I suppose Mr Councillor's mate was Mr Capping, or similar.......
There are few ways into the County Adit up that end, which don't involve truly monster abseils.
