surfing about and found this. Definitely a bit different. Both ends are securely gated and the Swallow Cove end is inaccessible by any normal means, but it's there

from recollection there is a dropshaft about 6m deep under the car park, down to the main drive

the Clerk of the Works was a former Geevor Mine Captain called Jeremy Green. Miners were a mixed bag of Irish, Geordies and even one or two Cornishmen, I believe the shotfirer was local.

Looks like a very neat piece of engineering. Essentially, if I'm reading this right, they have built a tunnel from the carpark to Swallow Cove that can be brought into operation when the situation arises. Problem solved.

As you are aware flash floods are a major concern in this part of the world and will probably become more frequent but I suppose solutions will vary from location to location. As you know there was a tragic one recently at Zennor.
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

that's about right. There is a side branch to the stream lower down.

the access is via wiers which over-top when the flow reaches a certain level, and discharges into the outfall.

the overflow was once accomodated by a low-lying area which acted as a surge brake, but uncontrolled infilling of the valley to extend the carpark over the years had removed this rather useful local feature....

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
