R.M.Ballantyne's classic book set on the Cornish mines can be found on the link below in its entirety FOC, written 1868. 😉

Well this is going to knock the bottom out of the secondhand book business. I have seen this book on fleabay for as much as £18.00. It can also be found in car boot or charity from 10 p to £2.00. Now you can down load ity for free.

I have to admire this chap, scanning in whole books. Must take him days.

There's hundreds of these books free on line.... I've even found sites for free audio books and last week down loaded M R James (my fav author) Complete Ghost Stories Audio Book again FOC.... all 19 stories!!! 😉 Great when driving on dark country roads!!!

It's all very well being able to download these books...but have you tried lying in bed with PC late at night (and I don't mean an officer of the law!!)

Give me my old copy of Deep Down anyday.

Not for me, Tony. If I were to find and read a really good old book online, and then spotted it for sale, I'd be tempted to buy one, but if I had not known of it, I wouldn't have given that book a second glance if I saw it in a shelf. A book can be much more than just a collection of words.

I agree. I found R.M.Ballantyne's book online years ago but still went out and bought it. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "A book can be much more than just a collection of words". Is that relevant?

Well I dont carry books with me on my travels but a lap top is always with me so for me it's great..... and like Pete I usually buy books even ones that are on line for free or I have borrowed for a look, thus the 1000 books on dozens of subjects all over my house and loft.... As for "A book can be much more than just a collection of words" is very true .... I love my book collection and they are much more than just words as they are me and define my interests, character and reflect the care I put into their handling and use (hence why I oft have 2 copies, one to collect & one to read). As a collection they are books of words bound by threads that make up so many bigger pictures. 🙂 🙂

I put on the link for those who might just like a look to see what it is..... Of course they could always get it thru the library any! 😉

Sadly, I bought most of the books I treasure back in the days when I didn't have other priorities for the money I earned. I have to be much more selective these days, or suggest them as Christmas presents!

I'm really lucky on that score, my family and friends seem to have knack for picking up remainders and oddity books that I like.

They got the impression that I did not like run of the mill books when they bought me the Big Book of trains for the 3rd time!!!! :guns:

Hence....

My mum came in with a book off a tat sale at her Church 3 weeks ago... "any good to you", mint copy of the Dover reprint of De Re Metallica, a whole 50p!!!! :thumbsup:

I think they all know by now what I do and don't like and they have found tons of great remainders etc books on their travels

If I end up with too many duplicates I either give em to other interested friends or trade em.
