May I thank LASTY for posting up a fantastic set of photos to the Mountfield Mine album? It is not often we get archive photos for the South East. They all seem to be from around the same time, but when was that?

BTW, I have moved them into the archive album from the user album. The convention here is that the User album is for photos of sites as they are now, and the Archive album is for old stuff, either when working, or photos of closed mines taken a while ago. Where the boundary lies might be problematic, as with time, stuff in the User section will progressively become "archive" material.

Anyway, they are really interesting and remind me vividly of the one and only visit I made to Mountfield when the place was on "care and maintenance".

Thanks again.

Peter, glad you enjoyed them, i am also fasinated by the photos. My grandfather spent 45 years undrground mountfield mine. I also spent a few days in the stores underground when i first started in 1987, i remember Gordon Thompsett seen in pics you have posted.
I am sill working for BG, now as a performance manager hence how i have come across all the pics.
I do have a lot more that i will upload including some earlier ones of the miners and the surface workings.

Lasty and Co If you want to see some more photos of Gordon and Mountfield call in at the Old BG Surveying Office now run as Photonic Science by Patrica.
Her late husband Adrian spent a lot of time down Mountfield doing a water survey for BG.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
