I take it you used to work there, JD?

I saw your comments on the other photos. Any chance you could put them into this discussion, is there? I am not sure if the photo comments get stored anywhere on the website.

I worked in the mine from 1974-1990 I was the Charge Hand Fitter, my Foreman was Eddie Alexander. I still have photos of the mine, all be it in B&W. I think our (The Fitters) claim to fame is being able to walk from the Pool Room to the Workshop, without our cap lamps on!!1/2 walk. You get to know the contour of the floor, sounds, smells, and feel !

The November evening trip that those photos were taken on was specially arranged for a group of South-East based mine explorers while the site was on care and maintenance. Water was still being extracted for use in the surface plant. We were underground for at least four hours and didn't cover the same piece of ground more than once. It was one of my top ten ever underground trips. Absolutely superb. So much history and a superb guide who knew the site intimately.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
