KURG have been working on a shaft in East Sussex near Burwash for a few years. This culminated in a determined effort to pump out the water flooding the bottom to see what was there. The photos are on their website.

http://www.kurg.org.uk/

Click gallery on the left side, look for the last image (Burwash pumping weekend) and click the image for a full gallery. Unfortunately I couldn't be there, but the level that was revealed answers some questions, and poses many more! The cost of the pump means that it is unlikely this will be repeated. The level is far too loose to be dug, and flooded up again very quickly after the pump was turned off. There is nothing like this accessible anywhere in the area. Dating is a problem but I suspect it is 1800-1900. (I know, that's a long period of time!)

Small world. I used to know Tunbridge Wells well. Although I've spent years trying to forget it. 🙂 Apart from one pub.

Tis indeed a small world. I don't really want to go back there, but I know people there so I will sooner or later.
Which pub was that? 😞 :lol:

Anyway.. 'coughs'

Are there by any chance any mines around t-Wells that I stupidly missed?

::)

The pub was the Grove but this was many years ago. At that time it was :thumbsup: As for the latter question I think Peter is your man. At that time meteorology was more important. Steuth, need another drink. 🙂

aah I know this place ! 😉
I used to be near Prospect Road, not too far from there.

I think it was my father - who was telling me of a large war bunker somewhere in the town ::)

Anyway - I'm going completely off topic 😢

Surely Maurice Tate and Wadhurst are more important than the mines? priorirty must be maintained. 😉
