Hello Derbyshire people.

I'll be camping near Crich this weekend and making my way to Matlock Bath for the PDMHS AGM.

I've cycled along the Cromford Canal towpath before between High Peak junction and Cromford wharf but does anyone know if it's cyclable from High Peak junction to the Whatsandwell area (on a touring bike, not MTB!)?

Cheers :flowers:

I seem to recall that I have cycled it before and it was like a standard towpath.

This PDF flyer seems to pretty much cover the area you'll be in with a map of trails, tracks, cycleways and interesting information about places and stops along the way.

Cheers

Just a word of warning mate, Matlock is literally under water right now, the River Derwent is 3ft below the iron bridge that crosses over it in Matlock bath. I imagine that Cromford canal is in a similar state; have you checked that your camp site isn't a swimming pool?

We are receiving more and more rain as I type  forecast says none stop for 8 more days 😢

It's rained or snowed most of the day here so Matlock will likely flood again tomorrow. 😢 If things stay dry-ish then water levels should have dropped by Saturday and the canal towpath is a few metres higher than the river so you will most likely be OK.
Follow the horses, Johnny my laddie, follow the horses canny lad-oh!

Matlock is ok at the moment, river levels are up but should be ok on the canal given the forcast. Its been interesting to watch parts of the derwent react to the sough outlets ,never seen anything like it.

The campsite is on pretty high ground so I'm hoping it should be OK

Thanks everyone, I'll keep an eye on the weather, I'd rather ride along the canal than the road but if it's too bad I'll just take the road, hope no-one local is suffering too badly from the flooding!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
