I had thought before for 2 parties, one going down and rigging it and the other going up, de-rigging it...

Not a bad idea if you could time it right to make sure the rigging party were running slightly ahead of the deriggers.

When did you do it last Chris, we have been trying to work out when the fall occurred, some COMRU members seen to think it was around 8 years ago? I thought it was more like 5.

August 15th 1999. I have no real recollection of the details, apart from it taking 9 hours and being a bit wet!

Slightly ahead??? I'd rekon play it safe and have the derigging trip the next day, wouldn't want to get to the back of Brownley and find the rigging trip had bottled it...

Also, as Mr Mike suggested at the weekend, it would be nice to take a slightly different route through Smallcleugh/ Rampgill; via Hydraulic shaft for example

I'd guess that the main advantage of doing it as two parties would be to alleviate the need to have make separate trips into Scaleburn and Smallcleugh to rig or de-rig.

I've done the Scaleburn to Brownley connection twice now, once with a wetsuit once without. You'd be worrying without a wetsuit if things didn't go to plan but as long as you were wearing one the worse that'd really happen if you were waiting around or had to turn back is that you'd be fairly pi$$ed off.

Wholeheartedly agree re changing the route though, there's the route via J. Irwins as well.

Ian, Hydraulic Shaft = 45m ish.

On another note RJV, have you recently done J. Irwins XC link, as last time I heard it was fallen in on the SC side. First time we did it we had to dig it.

Never actually done it. Looked for the connection earlier in the year but it was blocked a short while past the workings on the left hand side going towards the sump. Didn't give it a thorough look but took it to be loose debris rather than a terminal collapse.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
