Hi im new to this group, I live on loscoe grange and have been told someone fell through a shaft in their garden on the street years ago , does anyone have any info on this as it appears it was supposed to have been close to my land?

There was a brickworks near the gardens on the south side of the street, also Loscoe colliery a bit further north.

Been doing some research on that particular area and there were 3 shafts at bottom of Loscoe grange between the houses and the brick works but not known exactly where... some believe this to have been the Old Loscoe Colliery as against Loscoe Colliery that was next to Red River on Charles Hill playing fields.

If you look on the old NLS map on the previous post you will see two wells in the same plot... these could easily be the reuse of the shafts

On the road Loscoe Grange shown on the 6-inch maps of the NLS there are 10 wells recorded - 6 on the RHS and 4 on the LHS going up from a SW to NE direction

Use the side by side view on the NLS map and you can see pretty accurate where they are... or were...
