Hi, welcome to aditnow.

Given that you haven't received any replies to your post you might think us a little unfriendly. We do tend to be a little wary of people asking for details of mine locations, particularly on a first post. Unlike cavers mine explorers can be a suspicious species.

Hang around here a bit, introduce yourself and you may get a better response.

If you want to get involved in underground (caving) activity in Nidderdale the Black Sheep Diggers are very active in the Goydon Pot system and always seem to be looking for extra man power on digs etc.

Hi there, I know it's different for mines but I'm working towards my level 1 cave leader and honestly if it's a mine that's tall enough for a 6ft + bloke to walk through I'll choose it over crawling through tight wet holes:)

If you don't like crawling through tight wet holes perhaps you should reconsider your vocation as a cave leader 😉

I don't know the area at all well, but the History of Nidderdale by Bernard Jennings has a couple of chapters on it and several plans (theres one on Amazon currently for £8)

Few of the mines in Nidderdale have any photos posted here, of course that doesn't mean they aren't open, just that no-one posted any photos yet !

The only thing I know is definitely accessible nearby is Gillfield.

The second page has a link to make contact with the group who have the key, i'm sure if you ask permission for a visit and help them out they will be able to point you in the direction of other things in the area.

Gillfield Level is also the only mine nearby that is approved for use by Bewerley Park Outdoor Centre for group trips.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
