Is there no longer any access to any of these caverns?
Even by guided tour?
I know there are some fenced off areas in the nature reserve, but i thought they where filled with sand in 2001..
These photos where taken in 2009, or am i mistaken.
And also where is the entrance to Wrens nest tunnel. Wouldn't mind taking a look at that.
Any information would be great.

The Wrens Nest mine and part of the tunnel were filled late 70s- early 80s.
Suggest you book a trip on the Dudley Canal Trust trip boat. Two different trips were available, one through the tunnel and back to Tipton by mini-bus with a longer trip coming back through Netherton tunnel. You will pass within spitting distance of the Wrens Nest tunnel on either trip.

Trip boat details.

I believe on occasions its possible to canoe/kayak through the tunnel (by agreement) which might be rather jolly!

I suspect those days are long gone.;D
However, a little lady at the Canal Trust did mention the occasional head to head between canoes and the trip boat.

So I suspect it may still be possible if arrangements are made in advance 🙂

It would appear things have changed since we visited the museum in 2010, must admit though that I did not pursue matters further than the lady in the trip boat ticket office.:)

Edit: Before they built the steel shed over the Singing Cavern emergency exit you could get in whenever you liked.

I suggest that the best way to visit Dudley Tunnel and Mines is by a trip organised by the Dudley Canal & Tunnel Trust. As well as the short trips into the limestone mines from the Black Country Museum, they do through trips from Parkhead which include the Mines on certain dates lasting two hours. They also do a six hour Two Tunnel Trip which is a round trip taking in Netherton Tunnel as well. Netherton Tunnel can also be visited on foot as it has two towpaths. The Trust had a boat and a stand at the Crick Boat Show which I attended over the Bank Holiday weekend. For more details visit:

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
