Hi all, heading home via Matlock tomorrow and wondering which mine gives most bang per buck. Have belay belt and 20' static, and will have 2 to 3 hours to play with

I've only done Merlin mine-wise in the Peak.

Potential visits:
Wapping/Cumberland
Jug Holes
Mouldrige
a/n other

I would do Wapping Cumberland, just boots and overalls, helmet and lamp. No water. Beware of 'overdressing', its warm.

Jug Holes adit etc is easy and dry but unless you fancy the SRT will not fill your time.

Masson Mine in through the quarry is a good trip with no ropework and plenty to see.

Devonshire is another possibility, though it's a pretty complex system off the main routes.Mouldridge is several miles from Matlock Bath, though there's also the various VG mines on the way to it.

I think for 2-3 hours Wapping/Cumberland is probably your best bet, if only to see the fine collection of 19th century and 1970s graffiti!

If you do W&C, I'd suggest parking near the New Bath hotel (drive up to it then turn right in front of it, and park on the right towards the houses), then walk back past the hotel, follow the short cul-de-sac past the houses and continue on the footpath heading up the hill. Look for the break in the wall on the left, go through that then head uphill and to the right, you should be able to see the track of the old mine road.
Follow the horses, Johnny my laddie, follow the horses canny lad-oh!
