Does anybody know the exact location of the shaft of this mine ?. Is this the same mine where they found oil in 1847.

Oil is quoted to be found at Riddings New Deep Pit in 1847 in the Kilburn Seam workings.
The 'New' pit in 1847 is probably the same for the 'Old' pit in the DB.

The site was already in the DB, but someone (me) only put 1 'd' in Riddings ๐Ÿ˜ž
I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

I've located a very interesting article about the oil in Riddings (dated 1937), apparently it was discovered in a surface spring in 1847 and worked in a small way for a short while.
I'll scan it in when I can make time.

I am sure I read somewhere that it was discovered along the canal, possibly the same thing as the spring.

Phew! an epic re-learning Flickr to get this to work, was it worth it?

Taken from Arthur Mee, "The Kings England", "Derbyshire" 1937.

That article is almost too good for a newspaper. Thanks for the link.
