I notice that the 'heritage activity' of recording Acts of Parliament in medieval French on vellum has been saved. It was reported on the BBC a couple of weeks ago that paper would have to be used to save money; a 'rearguard action' has however saved the vellum industry. As for the mining industry..... One law for the rich...... :curse:

Unbelievably sad, does anyone know of the fate of some of the exhibits?
There was a line of narrow-gauge locomotives kept outside for many years, plus the ex- Eastwell Ironstone Ruston Bucyrus Dragline -that could find a home at either Threlkeld or "Rocks by Rail" at Cottesmore.
It seems that other regional museums could be under threat, heard mutterings about Armley Mills recently, closure there would be extremely tragic in view of the underground exhibition there.

Yes, the Armley Mills museum is under threat and the recent floods in the area, which flooded the lower floors of the Museum, may well give the council the excuse they need.

The dragline has gone to Threlkeld as can be seen on their Facebook page. It will be in safe hands there. I wonder how long it will be before they have it working!

No idea about the locos. Perhaps Threlkeld will take those to. They have a fair amount of track which looks as though it is expanding.

Don't know where you've heard this? The City Council are spending a lot of money conserving the flooded sections and their contents. The intention is to open asap possibly by Easter.

A better place to campaign is the disgraceful intention of Lancashire to close Queen Street Mill and Helmshore Mill.
