Nope. If people want to be overweight theres no way we should be paying for it. If there are underlying medical problems fine, otherwise, no. Funny the majority of people I see day to day have this in common, a sensible weight! There I said it, sure someone will be at my door momentarily to cart me off!

Do I sound like Stuey yet

What sort of medical problem (other than mental) could possibly override the calories in calories out thingy?

It is possible to modify those scooters to go significantly more quickly... ~25mph is... interesting... shall we say.

How many Coal Mining Museums do we need? We have Big Pit, the National Coal Mining Museum, any others?

Chris.

Well, personally I'd be happy if there was a coal mining museum in each of the former coal mining areas. Why not preserve its rich heritage and social importance for the masses, rather than subsidising the up-keep of the myriard of stately homes build on the backs of the hard work of the working class for the enjoyment of the priviledged few, and still being enjoyed by their families at the expense of others.

Presumably because people do actually visit stately homes, but not coal mining museums......

There's a mining heritage museum in Radstock, "Preserving the Social and Industrial Heritage of the Communities of the Former Somerset Coalfield"

But, there are many more stately homes than mining museums.
Posh piles get much more media coverage than mines, so there's an awareness issue. If the Antiques Roadshow or Bargain Hunt was filmed at a mining museum, more people would know of its existence and may choose to visit.

Personally, the only time I visit anything remotely stately is when I surreptitiously pass through its grounds on the way to an adit.

It is going to cost nearly £180,000 to demolish the Snibston Museum building plus a further £146,000 will have to be repaid to the HLF.

This along with Mining Museum at Haig Colliery closing and the general lack of funds makes you wonder how safe any museum, even Caphouse or Big Pit are!
Unless museums are totally self funding (not many) they seem to be at risk. 😞

Rest assured when it comes to a few £billions for vapourising people at the push of a button and £tens of millions for 're-furbing' the Palace of Westminster I think you'll see they'll find the money.

Remember museums, leisure centres, libraries and public transport (e.g. HS2) are for us poor 'riff-raff' and as such a dreadful drain on the public purse.
