Looking at Chatsworth cutting/ Wapping tunnel. Not sure about access, trespassing etc but I do know someone who has been and do know the location.

I've got a student flat on Crown Street on the site of the old Railway Station right next to the Wapping Tunnel Ventilation Shaft - I'm there every monday only at the moment. Let me know if you're ever planning a trip - I would be very interested.

According to my friend, the way he got in was just up the road from you, near to Kwik Save/Taskers DIY.
It is what they sometimes refer to as the Edge Hill cutting. There is a famous painting which is this cutting and also is the site of the once splendid Moorish Arch.
See http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/sites/l/liverpool_edge_hill_cutting/index.shtml  for more info
Think I posted this on DP once.
May have a little scout around soon and see what access is like.
Cheers

The friends of Williamsons tunnels do have a number of open days during the year. These are not extensive but well worth a look.

The Nottingham sandstone tunnels and mines are similar
