I think that should let you save it as a jpeg and then you can download it to your personal album or to East Hetton.

That seem to have worked OK, I would just say if the photo has come from a source such as Beamish Museum it's probably a good idea to reference that in your copyright attribution, just so they don't get cross, you can do that via the edit option.

Good to see the photos, I like the kids in the 1946 photo.

Yes they must have been tough, no coats.
I have edited as you suggested, I had not fully understood the real meaning of copyright, as the photo I uploaded was 'mine' I don't want to make anyone angry.:surrender:

Hi Collie Dog,

The photo of the boys clearing the snow has a link to Beamish, if you gave it to them it's your copyright so you can use it as you wish. When I've used some other person (mainly my Dad) or organisations' photo I make a reference to that just so that anybody else knows where it came from, mainly to be a good guy.

If you wander about the site there are many historic photos so it's not a big problem but I think it's good practice to give credit where it's due.

Hi Collie Dog,

I would think so.

The sites below may be of some use as you can watch the rise and fall of East Hetton on the historical OS mapping, it's interesting which bits were there until quite late.

Two other little points that may be of interest, some of the boozers are named as inns, implying that they had accommodation and the Bethel Chapel was described as Welsh, so it could suggest a migrant population some of them may have moved from Wales, possibly the South Wales valleys?

The British Newspaper Archive is a good source of local tittle tattle. Things like applications for licences, prosecutions of those who get caught drinking out of hours, that sort of thing.

It's not free, unfortunately. But if you plan a campaign of research, a year's subscription is worth considering. Just make sure you have the time to do the research.
