Was trawling the net and found this reference by coralsealady. Would dearly love to contact her as she mentions "four Europeans were brought to the mines from Australia in 1892 " I am pretty sure one of these men was Thomas E Thomas, my Great-Grandfather. He emigrated to Bendigo in Victoria from St Just in Cornwall. There was a gold rush in Bendigo in the 1850s to late 19th century. My Great Grandfather was contracted by a British company. He travelled to Malaya in 1892, and died soon after in Kelanton of fever (possibly malaria). He was buried in Singapore. I am going to Singapore in two weeks, but the cemetary no longer exists. Would love more info. Jon Thomas. email [email protected]

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
