Good Day,

I'm researching my gg father (William) Arthur Pay who is said to have been working around 1900 in "The goldfields of Prince Edward", after being in South Africa for 20 years as a mining engineer/prospector.
Question: Prince Edward Island or the mines in Wales on this website. I know my gg father moved in 1900 from New York to South Africa to join the Boer War.
Anyone knows if either Prince Edward Island or the mine if Wales wat popular and needed engineers around 1900?

Well, I know Prince Edward the gold mine here in wales quite well. About 1900 would have been the hayday of it, and it would certainly have had an engineer.

But it was/is only quite a small mine. I don't have the data to hand but I doubt it ever had more than 10-15 men working there.

Crown Estates may have records of staff, or maybe logs in the archives.

Thanks Rufenig. He moved from Rosebank USA back to South Africa in 1900 to join The Boer War.
