just here hoping to find out if there is any relatively unknown mines still accessible in East Scotland. I live close to Dundee and only been to Cults so far which is closed off now (around the same time two dumplings decided to venture too deep without prep :guns: ) and i know of another one or two close to there that might be open but look pretty small

Any ideas?
:)

Hi Steve,
I can't help with any actual knowledge of the area, but if you start by looking at cults mine (type it in as a search under 'mines quarries & sites' tab), then click on the map and select 'show other mines within 25km' you'll see there are a few others in the area.
Hall Teasses, Teasses, and kilmux (note that's a coal mine and very different safety-wise) are closest, but there are others.
Click on each mine and have a look at the photo albums- if there are no photos, or surface ones only, that's a good indicator that there's either nothing left, or no access to it.
Hope that helps.

Tony Oldham's Mines of Scotland has 100+ references to Fife. Not sure if he posts on here. He might do a cut and paste job if he does.

Cheers everyone for the help. I've been using the NGR map on the home page but most around me are blocked off or collapsed 😞 I certainly dont live in the best place for mines and caves and started this hobby a few years late :/

Hi Steve,
Do not be so dispondant,
We achieved a lot at Airthrie Hill mine at Bridge of Allan, have a careful look, even I have yet to see it all!

What you need is an entrenching tool and crowbar.

Hi Steve,

Which one of Cults working is closed off now? I went into the old part about two years ago and there were numerous entrances. They were all in row, one next to another. Some of them partially blocked, I entered on one side and got out through exit with that creepy manequin:) It is huge!

There was 2 entrances that we knew of, one was the main one with the tree right in front of it and one round the corner from that. both were blocked but didnt see the manequin or any other entrances. Been in cults a few times but didnt go too far in and now when im kitted or prepared they decide to close it off. Will be having a peek next time im down that way.

Ive seen the other mines on canmore and this website, just unsure if there are still open or not.
