Just joined, so a quick introduction.
I have had a long interest in industrial archaeology and mines and I now live down the road from the Hafren Forest.
Now got a small contract with NRW to photograph all the mine and quarry sites in the Forest.

Hello.

It would be interesting to know some background to this project.
Have NRW. given a reason for the photographic survey and what are the pictures of?

Best wishes.:)

Simple answer.
They want photos of what there is, and what condition it is in.
They have given me over 100 references to check.

Thanks.
Are these building remains, or workings that they are interested in?

Sounds like a dream job! Good luck and enjoy it!
Will NRW allow you to post photos on this web site?

Hi, will these photos eventually be available to the public (through the NRW)? Along the lines of the various public registers they have.

Also not wanting to pry into commercial confidentiality, but it would be interesting to know which 'part' of NRW commissioned the project.

Doing my first trip tomorrow mainly heading up to the Nant y Eira complex, weather permitting, but perhaps it is a good job I've got a 4x4!

Not a question I have asked, so will find out.

Don't know Wyn, but I will ask the question.

Unfortunately low cloud and rain stopped me getting any decent photos of the Nant y Eira complex.
Back another day!

A description from when they did the archaeological work there.

The low cloud was working against me.

Advice please:
Would it be better to open a thread in another section?
How do you post photos on here?

Hopeless for that type of work right now!

I took a series of site photos on slide film for Minescan in the same area in 1996 - they are at the National Museum, Cardiff. I wonder how changed the sites are, twenty years on? I imagine Nantiago is pretty similar but would be interested to hear if there's much undergrowth at Nantyreira.

Hi. Keep the thread going for now? Interesting to hear how you get on with the project....especially with the weather and midges!

Photos:

Check on the Mine & Map Search page under the "Mines, Quarries & Sites" tab on the home page to see if the mine already exists. Please check VERY carefully and check alternative names/spellings etc to avoid duplication/confusion!

If the mine exists then go to the page for that mine, go to the relevant photo album and look for the grey tab titled "Upload Photos". Hit that tab and follow the instructions. Do them one at a time to start off with to see how the upload function works and then use the same function to upload up to 20 at a time.

If the mine doesn't exist on the database then click on the link in the orange panel on the side of the search page. The panel is titled "Want to add a mine?". Follow the instructions...

Bingo!

Being an ignorant peasant I had to look up:

NRW = National Resources Wales and

The Hafren Forest lies north-west of Llanidloes, an ancient market town situated in Mid Wales

Afon Hafren is the Welsh name for the River Severn.

I assume that you rather than NRW hold the copyright?

Here is the AditNow entry for Nant yr Eira mine:
http://www.aditnow.co.uk/Mines/Nant-Yr-Eira-Lead-Mine_3159/

Sinker has given you instructions on how to upload photos.
To display a photo in a forum post go to the album containing the photos, in this case
http://www.aditnow.co.uk/Album/Photographs-Of-Nant-Yr-Eira_4399/
Click on the photo you want to display and you will get a page similar to this one:
http://www.aditnow.co.uk/Photo/Wheelpit_5789/
At the bottom of the page you will see the code to paste into your message.
If instead of doing the above you click on the grey button with text "Discuss in Forum", you will start a new topic with the photo title as the topic title.

Photobucket images used to be visible here but don't seem to be any more.

This is probably a general request to most picture posters.
PLEASE put captions either on the pictures or with them.

They felled all of trees below the forest road many years ago.

Couple more added to the folder, as above.
More to follow when the weather improves!
