I'm interest in access to mines in and around Huddersfield for the purpose of exploration and taking photographs. I have been to a few sites but as yet had little success in accessing them.
My family are from in and around Wakefield too so very interested around there too. I'm very lucky to be close to the national mining museum too and have been there many times.:devil: Regards ADI

Please don't enter coal mines without the necessary gas detecting equipment, you are unlikely to get out alive!--

Sorry but to be MORE explicit!
If it's Coal stay out! There are too many hazards that make it deadly.
Anyway most coal is well sealed and the coal authority take a VERY poof view of anyone breaking in.
Try to find a local caving (and mine exploring ) club who will have knowledge and equipment to help you. (Plus most of them like drinking beer and dressing up in funny clothes!);(

Hi Welcome to the site.
Round Huddersfield we have few if any open shafts but there is a big problem with gas. In the past there has been several explosions down mines while in operation. At Lindley The owner and several workers were killed. New Ground was affected by gas explosion to name two.
Other than that there is still plenty to see. PM if you want details as I specialise in the Huddersfield area.
