Hi Kate

Welcome to the asylum, I run plenty of trips around North Wales and you are always welcome to join us, check out my group page on Facebook where I normally post details of upcoming trips.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/minetripsandtours/

If you get an error message it's because it's a private group, search for Steven Dalgliesh (mining daggers) and make a friends request, I will then add you to the group.

If your location is Llandudno, there is the Great Orme peninsula just next door with some interesting old adits & caves but also a 3000 year old iron mine with different levels up on the top. It's a tourist pay & walk round thing but worth checking out.

http://www.goes.org.uk  who (as their name implies) are mainly interested in the Great Orme mines and who have various digging projects in the mines outside of the mining museum.

The Great Orme mine workings (including those in the museum) were copper mines. (I'm not aware of iron being mined on the Orme.) The museum is primarily concerned with the Bronze Age workings and the other accessible workings are mostly 18th and 19th century.

At least one person who regularly posts on AN is a GOES member.

GOES do a certain amount of 'public relations'-type activities, such as their guided walks, for the public.

http://www.goes.org.uk/html/articles.html ) detail their underground activities both on and off the Orme and include surveys of some of the (non-museum) Great Orme workings.
