Hi guys,

I found your site and forum whilst looking for information on flooded mines etc around Scotland. I'm soon going to be undertaking some cave/mine diving training and was curious to find out if there were any stable mines with flooded sections that would be suitable for further exploration.

Thanks

I thought most of the mines in Scotland had flooded sections.

Welcome I have no info on Scotland but the folks here sound like they know a lot. You may get some good advice. I am New here and do not have the Sack needed for Cave diving. There is a young Lad Named Teddy Garlock who has posted recently Vids on You Tube. It may interest you even though it is in New York state.

Good luck Stay safe

Hi Biscuitfuelled, many years ago in my diving days we used to traipse over to Hodge Close Quarry in Cumbria. I know its not Scotland but it was an eminently suitable training venue for both open-water and cave diving.

FWIW, in 1986 Steve Kemp & I assisted by 2 other 'sherpas' from York Uni SAC dived the Sir Francis engine shaft - hand over hand down the winding cable to 30m then straight back up. Could see absolutely ******-all! Didn't even consider going along the drift at the bottom, we'd be in there yet.

For those who are wondering, we considered it an 'Open water dive with restricted access' rather than a 'Cave Dive' per se.

never again, mind ::)
