I was wondering why this quarry is known as pepper quarry.

My family included many peppers that were quarrymen in this area.

Hi Mark, yes I beleive it was named after a man with that surname. I remember Melly Dixon manager telling me that when I worked there. No Peppers present when i worked at Elterwater (1981-1986) But definitely were 20 years before that with my father at Spout Crag.

Im staying with friends ,at Firbank this weekend,and Melly Dixon used to live in one of these cottages,possibly this one. Ernie Rigg was Quarry Manager before Melly ,Chris Rigg ,our hosts, thinks his Aunt Edith was married to Stan Pepper.

Stay Away From That Trap Door.
