The Bage Mine at Bolehill is where members of my family have worked for over 150 years to its closure in the late 1890s
My 4XUncle Joseph Flint was Mining Agent there in the 1790s he also Agent at Ratchwood Mine Rise End Middleton
His brother my 4XUncle Samuel Flint was Agent at Ravenstor Mine and Orchard Grove Mine and The Dovegange..
Herbert Flint was Mining Agent in the 1870s at The Bage

I have been in contact with Mr John Jones who is a senior officer of Wirksworth Mines Group who use The Bage as a base The mine is on land owned by an allied member of my family today I have carried out some research about the mine

Some members of my family met their end at the mine
ie Henry Marples brother in law of my Gr Gr Uncle Adam and Millicent Flint nee Marples..Henry's son aged 9 years was killed at the mine

I have record that among men to work the mine in April 20th 1897 were all my kinsmen Mark Flint Herbert Harrison and John Greenhough The mine continued producing small amount of ore up to 1906 when it was owned by James Smith from 1901 From 1869 - 1875 the mine was owned by Edward Miller Wass trading as E M Wass & Co and then from 1875 - 1901 by E M Wass & Son although Wass died in the 1880s Edward Miller Wass was owner of Mill Close Mine and a close friend of my Gr Gr Uncle S J Sheldon who was Deputy Barmaster

I have other information about the Bage Mine if anyone is interested ie the highest yield of ore produced at The Bage was in 1844 when the Meerbrook Sough branch level reached The Bage although beteen 1777 and 1826 better drainage of the mine was found then a level of the Cromford Moor Sough reached Bage Hard End Shaft

I presume that the Bage Lead Mine is in Derbyshire? It is not listed on AD. Do you have an NGR?

one of my best mining experiences was at Bage Mine, the w.m.r.g. run the mine and I was lowered down and allowed to wander, teriffic place. the mines research group as you say use it as their base, the amount of work they have done there is a tribute to their ability and deternmination to search the old mine. I take my hat off to them one and all. Bage is a mine I have always been interested in, living in Cromford for many years I used to wander up there and a few others nearby. I would be interested in whatever history you have please, I would pay for any costs involved. I visit Cromford 2/3 times a week so I could collect if its easier for you. Nice bit of history about your family..treasure it,add to it and pass it on to you children for safe keeping later on.
be afraid.....very afraid !!!!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
