I began a descussion recently about Soapstone, the Quarries and the early production of English Porcelain and added an album of personal photographs covering Gew Graze (Soapy Cove). I intend to move on northwards a mile or two, to add photographs of Mullion Cove (Mullion Cliff Quarry) at locations where the Soapstone was quarried.
Mullion Cove has been linked with Adits from a local Copper Mine, but this is not the case. It has often been said that these come out in the cliffs of the Cove. Honestly, they do not.(see below)
The adits (Two) entered the main watercourse via a valley leading north from the Copper Mine site at Vro farm, down to the river where it flows west behind the Grade II Listed Mullion Mill and then enters the Cove through the Harbour "Leat".
"Caves" and small "Drifts" visible on closer inspection are linked to the Soapstone Quarrying and what may be the only known Soapstone Mine in the area, called locally "Torchlight Cave", the site of a Fault line in the Serpentine.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
