I'm visiting here in April for a week to see gf's hometown, will probably wonder off for a few days so she can see friends, so naturally I'm wondering if there are any mines in this part of Cornwall which can be accessed, or are worth visiting?
I haven't been able to find out anything, I know there are mines on the Tamar though.

cheers

They're a bit thin on the ground. There is an adit at Millook Haven half way up the road opposite the amazing folded cliffs (featured in a lot of geology books).

The slate quarries at Trebarwith are interesting, particularly those at the allegedly haunted Backways Cove. It's a hike.

Personally, I'd have a day out at Hartland Quay, look at the amazing rock formations and natural caves and have a nice salad in that pub place (good salads!)

My first ever mining history purchase was Hamilton-Jenkins Mines and Miners of Cornwall Pt. XVI. Wadebridge, Camelford and Bude. On a family holiday to Bude in 1974 it allowed me to go out and visit a few interesting sites, surface only, and switched my interest from looking for interesting minerals to investigating old mines. If you can get a copy, it will direct you to what sites are within easy range of Bude.

I still have the book, with its grey card cover, but it is in a pretty awful state now!

If you are into industrial remains in more general terms, don't forget the Bude Canal.

...or the fossil fish near the old swimming pool

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
