The new heritage trail opens on the old Lofthouse Colliery
site with lots to see on the 30th of November, 10-00am.
A parade sets off from the Pit Wheel up to the new memorial
behind a brass band and several mining banners .
After the parade a buffet and entertainment will be held at the
Lofthouse Gate WMC .
The full day as been organized by the Lofthouse Colliery Action Group. All people wishing to come will be made welcome.

Mary

thank you for the invite but you haven't stated where Lofthouse is don't just assume everyone lives local to it or even knows of it.
I know google can solve that but ...

Thanks for the information Mary.
I've added the colliery to the database (it was missing for some reason)

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Lofthouse-Coal-Colliery/

I've also put the event on the calendar for anyone who is interested.

Lofthouse Colliery in-rush,7 killed,6 bodies un-recovered,

The present legislation regarding barriers and water-logged workings came about after this disaster, and still stands,

Well known about in Coal Mining circles.

My Name' s Tony Banks. I was working underground at Lofthouse Colliery on the night of the Disaster in 1973 and I
have arranged anniversary's for this disaster over the last
40 years, the last back in March this year. I will be at the
opening of the Lofthouse Heritage Trail along with lots of ex
Lofthouse men, and ex Wistow Men who I worked with over the years as a workman, Deputy ,and Colliery Overman.
Over the last 12 months I have been involved with the Lofthouse Colliery Action Group to get the project off the ground, and I am looking forward to the 30th of November.

My late father was an Undermanager at kellingley at the time of the in-rush. He was sent to lofthouse to help and was in charge of making the piggy back tunnel thack went over the top of the origional roadway to gain access to the workings.

My father and the mines inspector recovered the only body to be found in the disaster.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
