Ye gods, Digging into the fermented grey matter I recall fishing in Pennytown pond, the bottom pond on Shady Lane, there were three ponds on Shady Lane, going down from Cotes Park Pit, the farm at the top belonged to someone called Keys? IIRC the daughter, Charlotte was in my class at Mortimer Wilsons.
Back in the early '60's there was Billy Bush's scrapyard and a concrete pipe store yard on the site of the old pit at Pennytown, is this the one you are interested in?
Somewhere at the bottom of Birchwood Lane there was a wrought iron footbridge over the railway which was known as the "Monkey Bridge".

Thanks for the memories!! 🙂
Always remember, nature is in charge, get it wrong and it is you who suffers!.
