The project has created the first memorial at Agecroft, there is a book in production, project with local school, an exhibition in St Augustines Churh, plus film in production, a number of short films have already been made. We are still on the search for more photos of Agecroft, plus other pits of the Irwell, Pendleton, Clifton Hall, Newtown and Wheatsheaf.

Great stuff i grew up around the once mighty Agecroft colliery , and many miners lived on my estate
i used to play on the shunting engines as a kid i think one was called "puffing Billy" ?they were housed in a shed built under the bridge next to Mayfield kennels
a lot of fond memories of Agecroft and so sad to see all that is left of this once majestic giants five shafts , is two green chinamans hats on an industrial estate
i hope your project takes off

I hope you make the exhibition to be held in September. I'll post details soon. It will be at St Augustine Church, (the Miners Catherdral) on Bolton Rd.

The project is always on the look out for recollections about Agecroft. Any photos would be good too

Thanks Richard

Hi Richard
The shunting engines from Agecroft i believe are now in use on the Preston dock railway there are video clips on you tube

also as kids we used to play in the mine adits of Wet Earth pit at Ringley there were several passages where you could walk up a fair way , but others had no air , i spent a lot of my youth in the Irwell valley , lots of very interesting industry most of which has now sadly gone

Keep me informed of any activities you have planned or if you have a web site post the name

thanks Andy 😉
