I'm Clive and have been interested in the slate mines of N Wales for many years. My main interest has been in the narrow gauge railways used to transport the product - been an active member of the Ffestiniog Railway Soc. for 50yrs this year (sad or what!!). Last year I joined the Friends of Cwmorthin as I believe it is a gem of industrial archaeology that needs to be protected. That's a bit about me and I look forward to reading more info about the slate mines. Also Parys & Mona Copper Mines on Anglesey - which all but burrow under my house!

That's how i got interested in the quarries oooh.... er many years ago.

We did indeed! I thoroughly enjoyed that trip with you and Dave. Had a new knee a few weeks ago - pain free for the first time in years. Should be strong enough to do some more exploring of Cwm by early April.

You ready for the new season on the WHR? Just getting my head around oiling up all those axleboxes for yet another season so may see you some Tuesday evenings at Dinas...

Hi Graham

Had read your masterly work on Cwm a few years ago. Finally got to see inside last year (see Skimble's post..). Amazing place, joined FoC soon after. It really does need keeping pretty well as it is for future generations to experience the real conditions those 'old men' worked in - NOT the sanitised version you get at Llechwedd. Unfortunately, my knee finally packed up a month or two later but I've just had a replacement so hope to go under again by April and do some more exploring.
