Wow talk about bad timing by some people... as I drove down Butterley hill today to take the latest round of photographs of the works, I saw two lads climb over the wall into the works but unknown to me someone had already alerted the police to other trespasser/metal thieves already in there.... I met up with the someone (also doing pics of the works and on his way mine exploring 😮 ) and asked him what was cracking off at which point there were 2 police cars already there, then another ... then another ... oh and finally another (van)!!!. Having told the police what we'd seen on Butterley Hill, me, my daughter and our new acquaintance stood back to photograph and enjoy the fun joined by yet another professional photographer also there to take pictures of the buildings. After 10 mins the trespassers were being hunted by 8-10 officers and even had their own helicopter 😮 for real .... Boy I bet they were cursing us ... its gets better... then the dog squad turned up as well  ... Oddly they got all 5 unlucky lads bang to rights.... ::)

The morals of this story are,

1. If you are going to break into a factory don't pic a famous one that is under continuous scrutiny by local industrial archaeologists and photographers. 🙂

2. If you are going to break into a factory, don't pic one that is next door to (2 mins away literally) Derbyshire police headquarters, A'Division police headquarters, Police Dog Squad HQ and the Notts & Derbys Police helicopter base

As always there has to be a twist... but its a nice one. The guy I am chatting to not only is a mine explorer (on his way to Holme Bank Chert Mine) but much to my surprise turns out to be one of my best school friends kids... who promptly turns up with his missus and we have an enjoyable car park re-union... kids and all.

Bummer for the trespassers/thieves but nice for us!!! :)

You could say it was a 'fair cop'. Glad to see they were cought and that someone had made the move to report the thieving to the police.
