Hi all :thumbup:
im a newbie my name is john im 32yr and live in ripley in the derbyshire area i am a ex uk coal employee on a opencast but was layed off in december but hopefully i will return in may or june of this year.
So i was walking with the kids today around waingroves area through the woods and notice they have put a new memorial in the woods of the old colliery thats was built in there years ago so just out of intrest when i got home we decided to have a browse on the internet for pictures of the old waingrove colliery and came across this wonderfull site so i thought i would signup and see some of the lovely history of yesterday so many thanks to thoughs of you that have spent many hours of posting lots of nice and usefull info :thumbsup:

Hi there. If you fancy some interesting walks his summer we are researching the Butterley Co Rly and tramways to all the local collieries, we are close to mapping the whole system from Portland to Buckland hollow so much to see. Welcome to AN, am just up rod in Ripley

thank you for that. thats nice to know would be intresred in that could you keep me updated on that would i be able to bring the famliy along my kids enjoy walking and challanges in findings :angel:

Hi again, depends on the sort of walk... if we do a proper walk then yes but often it can be hours playing hunt the field alignment, tramstones and shaft mounds with mountains of plans and debate... but yes sometimes its proper walks... so with you dependent on bordedom threshhold of the family... my daughter 13 comes and even discovered some engine hold down bolts at the last site we did.....
LeeW and myself are well into the BCR and also have been doing alot around Hartshay to Morley Park... The next big targets are a dirty dig in Marehay and colliery remains at Birchwood!
What level of knowledge locally do you have? It just helps us know what you might like to see plan wise and walk wise...? 🙂
