Hi. My name is David Makinson. I am currently researching for a novel set in 1911-12.

Based on a true emigration story, I would appreciate any information on granite quarry working conditions and pay for a labourer employed in Aberdeenshire during the period.

In the absence of finding the actual quarry involved I intend to use the famous Rubislaw quarry as a backdrop for the opening chapters.

I would also appreciate any information about technologies employed in granite quarrying at the time.

Any snippets of information will be most gratefully received.
Thank you 🙂

Try "The Aberdeen Granite Industry" by Tom Donnelly.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
