After the curry we had last night we might be able to help you out there.....

Seriously, farting will (well certainly mine!) set off an H2S sensor.

Probably not H2S as that would be soluble in a wet human.

Probably some methyl-sulphide thing, or a similar weird cabbage decay byproduct!

It would be interesting what asparagus-pi$$ does to a sensor, as the smell is a "thiol" which contains an H-S group.

Next time I go for a post asparagus slash, I will take my meter!

With my 4 meters I've had, the only problems I've had with them being irregular has been down to buggered O2 sensors and the rest being user error/something confusing them.

Similar stuff can confuse the sensors and make them read wildly, as well as flashing the unit up in a different to 20.9 ,0 ,0 ,0 atmosphere.

Someone flashed a dodgy old Peugeot 306D up in Killifreth carpark the other day and the gas meter almost laid an egg!

I think you should torch it. The Peugeot, not the meter.

Looks like i've lucked out with this one.
After attaching my 'charger'

Powered up and seems to be 100% working.

Oxygen sensor responding when breathed on, CO and LEL alarms triggered by the gas cooker. Don't have a handy household source of H2S though.

Have you taken out a patent on your charger design ? 😉

Ive been watching this thread with interest so I bit the bullet and bought one off EBay ,I had to repair the battery and rig a charger up I noticed the battery fully charged is 5.6 volts so banging 12 into it might be a bit too much ,I used 6 volts on mine as with 12 it got too hot also the guy I bought it from said he has another two if anyones interested

Don't worry too much about buying expensive O2 meters, I suspect some bright spark will bring out an iPhone app before long

It makes sense that its 6V output when you see that the 'emergency' battery pack in the manual is 4 x AA

So it's quite happy to charge off 6V as well ?
How very accomodating of it.

Re: Household supply of H2S, leave an egg in a warm place for a couple of weeks, when it floats well in water, you have your H2S. 🙂 (or is that SO2)?
Always remember, nature is in charge, get it wrong and it is you who suffers!.

As a footnote to this little experiment, I went back to the unit today having not touched it since it was working on 6/1 and it now appears to be dead as a doornail.

Maybe I just wasted £15 😢

Looks like it can take AA battery pack, although these of course cost silly money despite just being a bit of plastic.

Could you not make your own one of these out of a Maplin battery holder or something?

If the internal cells are goosed then might be worth looking to see if they are easily replaced.

Don't dispare my battery pack packed in aswell I've got a photographic record of how I pulled it apart replaced each cell involved a hacksaw, screwdriver and about an hour of cursing. I did't damage the outer part of the battery pack so still looks as good as new. New cells must be good as it ran twenty hours and it's still going strong. I will post the pics in my personel album if anyone is interested, also you need to be nifty with a souldering iron. Hope this helps

I don't think its just the battery though, looks like something fried on the circuit board.

No, I have a mate with the same model who can use the set of sensors for spares.
