Hi guys, i recently got this Flygt GF 51 204 submersible pump from a mate.
I got it for free but the cables have been cut, no idea why. the plan is to use this to pump out mines

Does anyone know anything about this pump? What kind of oil should i be filling it with? Where can i get a power cable from? And why are there 2 cables?

Thats about all i can find on it, it is bloody heavy tho! And can pump 330l per minute!

Just a guess - one might be for a float switch.

We deal quite alot a work with various pumps, I'll see what I can find out when I go back to work next week.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

Hey guys, my mate just dropped off the manual. Have found out a few things about it.

Pump head is 12 meters, not too bad 😉
It uses a 2" BSP discharge fitting, so parts shouldn,t be too hard to find.

Hey Dave, yes i think you are right about the float switch, do i need this or can it be bypassed?

Does anyone know where i can get a cable?

Cheers Agricola any info would be appreciated!

Dave

Depends what you want it to do, if you want to pump somewhere dry and keep it dry to the bottom yes you will need a float switch. If whatever you're pumping has a huge sump (I.e. lots flooded beneath it) and you only want to keep the water down for a short while you could live without it, it should just be a case of shorting the two switch terminals.

http://www.screwfix.com/p/tower-3-core-reel-flexible-cable-black-1-5mm-x-25m/55534  The pump is only rated at 4A but this higher rated & larger diameter cable would be more robust.
According to the rating plate the motor uses a capacitor probable for phase shift purposes, have you checked this is internal in the casing?

Cheers for the replies, yea that cable looks right!
It will be used to pump out mines, just enough to have an explore so we wont need a float switch.

"According to the rating plate the motor uses a capacitor probable for phase shift purposes, have you checked this is internal in the casing?"

I dont really know, i couldn,t see any capacitors inside the case, the pic on the owners manual has a black cylindrical thing with two cables coming out so that must be it. Will it run with out it?

The motor wont turn without one.

It's just occurred to me that one reason the cables may have been cut is to prevent use of a faulty item.

I suggest it might be a sensible precaution to get the insulation resistance of the pump tested just to make sure it's safe to handle when it's live (and wet).

Or its been, well you know what i mean,no one is going to roll up the cable.

A bit long winded but it appears "G" is groundwater and "F" is sewage. Have a wade through it, may be useful.

I doubt you'd get much change from a £1000 for that one, t looks like a sludge pump (It will handle some pretty big solids). But yes I would get it checked by an electrician - you don't want to plug it in and find the whole body is live! And worst still the water you're standing in!

Hey guys, I,ve beeb looking at the cost of getting it repaired vs buying a new one. and it would work out cheaper just to buy a new one. I think you maybe right about the cables being cut to stop it being used due to being faulty.
Not going to throw this away tho, may be able to fix it in the future
