An odd little thing I happened upon and have acquired: a wrist-mounted GPS, very Inspector Gadget!

Full test report to follow, when I've actually used the thing, but preliminary indications are that it's essentially a much smaller version of the well-proven eTrex, albeit a very basic spec.

The big advantage in my eyes is that it's wrist-mounted, hence it's a lot more convenient than having to retrieve a GPS from a pocket or rucksack. The size is also an advantage and the wee screen should prolong battery life (2x AAAs) to about 15 hours, although we'll see in practice what it achieves! The original larger eTrex struggles to get over 4 hours in a cold climate, so either way it should be an improvement.

Although the screen is pretty small, the resolution is good, much better than the earlier and larger models. The 'trip computer' screen also scrolls, which avoids having tiny data, but does of course mean you can't see everything all the time.

Price is about £100 with the PC connection kit about £30 on top. More about that when I figure out how to make it work... 😞
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

This looks really good.
If it lives up to other Garmin wrist mounted stuff it should be a winner for trekking sailing, walking etc.
I use a forerunner 205 for running/cycling etc and have found it most useful.
There is a nice bit of software called sporttracks (freeware) which can be used to keep logs of your routes, pace profile and overlay onto a map/satellite image.

Vanoord,

I'd been dithering about a walking GPS for many a year, and I'd settled myself on the very model that you have obtained, well done that llama..........

maybe one day I'll give up using the Geriatric Positinong System (map and compass) and buy one of these new fangled satnav thingies
Better to regret something you have done - than to regret something you have not done.
