As mentioned in Part 1 after conversations with the author this series of articles is now available to all.

I have up-loaded Part 2 (of 3) of “Coniston Copper Mines Revisited” to the Coniston Copper Mine page. (link please)

Part 2 includes the exploration of the Paddy End workings and the attempt to find a through route from Levers Water to Hospital Level. The fearsome “Funnel” is also descended and explored.
There are five excellent maps and ten photographs from that period.

It’s a fascinating insight into the early forays into what was then unknown and serious territory.

Part 3 will be added later and records the discoveries of "The Oak Plug"
"Top Level Extension" and the exploration of "Brow Stope."

No problem Richard. These articles are far to good not to be available to all...even those at work!

Interesting reading whilst trying to visualize the settings, thanks. 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
