Back to thread, I see a great advantage in these for low voltage, i.e. single or parallel Li Ions where the voltage overhead is low. The problem is efficiency as generally current out is same as current in so its the voltage overhead that is being 'lost in space'
Regardless of this you can gain a bit from the microcontroller and there is a reliability factor as you are using a parallel array of chips each of which will operate independently of the others.
A bit of jiggling you can have one chip independent of any microcontroller as a fail safe if you lowest setting is going to be 350 mA minimum.
Others on here may well disagree with me on this, but EcoStar uses these and I don’t call it by that name for nothing.
