Anyone know where i can get Quality 18650 batteries from.i dont want ultrafire brand cos there crap in my opinion.also want a quality charger.ive had to rob some batteries from an old laptop for now.maplin want £15 each!!! Surely i can get some cheaper quality ones somewhere and avoid using ebay!!

Everything I like is either immoral, illegal or fattening!!!

Torchdirect are good, I went for those same Xtars, they're excellent and I got a Xstar charger as well which is great.

Just bear in mind that with Deal Extreme, postage will take a while due to most places banning lithium cells in airmail.

As for Brands...
Sony, Panasonic, Sanyo and Samsung make decent cells. They do get faked though (Sony VTC cells especially).

What it's for (IE, current draw), will tell you what cells to look at.

Out of all the 'JunkFire' brands sold on the Hong Kong sites the Trustfire 2500 mAh are possibly most 'passable'. Not 2500 mAh, more like 2200, but they do last and do what they say on the tin. I used them at one time, not any more.

The great revelation is when you replace one of these in your favourite torch with say a genuine Sanyo, and feel mounting surprise on just how long it goes for before needing a recharge.
I expect the other surprise will be in a few years when its still going strong, like the ones in my netbook I bought SH off eBay about 3 years ago.
The expression "false economy" occurs.

I have dealt with a guy who sells on eBay as Ecoluxshop and the stuff he sells appears genuine and reasonably priced. I will stick my kneck out and recommend this seller. I use this seller if I run short and need stuff in a hurry.

I went down this road a few months back. As far as chargers go, most people recommended the Nitecore Intellicharger i4. I'm finding it a really decent piece of kit. I ended up with Sanyo cells and as Roy says they really seem to last a long time between charges.

Might be worth a look at these. Currently sing them with good results.

Samsung INR18650-25R

High-discharge capacity, so happy being used with bat-burners. Legit 2.5AH capacity, decent brand.

Got a couple for my e-cig (Silly current draw), and ran a few tests. Very happy with them, and now have 9 (3s3p) powering a nice bright video light I whipped up.

The image is of panasonic's (wrapping is quite distinctive), but may be a stock picture lifted from elsewhere.

EDIT:-
The seller is Torchy the Battery Boy, legit as it gets. capacity is usually tested at 1A current draw rather than 200mA or so.

In general, the higher the capacity, the lower the discharge capacity is, just something to watch out for.

I actually source mine from recycled laptop battery packs as it happens.
For £6-£8 posted you can get 6-12 quality cells. I use lots of that size and have bought 6 or 7 packs so far without a single dud cell and have all been quality brands.
I got fed up of buying ebay specials and having to replace them in a matter of weeks
